Accessible performances include measures and/or alterations which mean anyone who may not otherwise be able to attend, get to enjoy the event too.
In Eventotron, you can specify whether you’ll be providing any accessible performances:
Will your event include a British Sign Language Interpreter? Note: If you are only offering Signed Performances on certain dates, please remember to tick this in your sessions.
Audio described performances involve additional narration, which will benefit blind and visually impaired audience members.
You will need a narrator who has seen your show beforehand and ideally can work from a soundproof space in the venue, as well as securing the correct equipment (microphone, transmitter and headsets if using).
A captioned performance uses equipment to display sound effects, dialogue and off-stage noises in text format. This could be a captioning unit, tablet/phone or projection. For a digital event it might be on-screen captioning. The captions roll in time with the performance and are generated by an operator who is familiar with the show.
Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a welcoming and comfortable arts experience for people with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning or cognitive disabilities. Modifications often include lower sound level, especially for startling or loud sounds.
These might include: a chill-out zone or safe place; a downloadable script of the show in advance; content tailored to a relaxed performance; a pre-show introduction to the shows content; softened lighting; music kept to a low level; audience members that make involuntary sounds are welcome; people will be able to move around the space.
Alongside offering Accessible peformances, you can also offer discounts to audiences who may be d/Deaf or disabled by offering concessions.
Audience members who are disabled also qualify for a Personal Assistant ticket to each performance they attend. If you opt into the scheme, the Box Office will issue one complimentary ticket to the assistants of customers with both physical and invisible disabilities, who would not otherwise be able to attend.
We recommend you offer these as this ensures everyone has the option to come and enjoy your show. This will be applied to all of your performance dates.
