Spoken Poetry: Show Up in Sequins, or Don't

#FindYour Escape, Story

Amelia is a Northern-born, Brighton-based actor, poet and theatre practitioner. She betrayed the North, (and her Wuthering Heights 'main character' delusions) for New York first, (even more delusional), then, for a life by the sea, where she developed a new delusion of being a long lost Mermaid.

Amelia is currently working towards publishing her first collection of poems. One of her most recent credits from Anthroplay Theatre's 'Anthrotalks', at the Two Brewers in Clapham, bills her as one of, 'London's hottest new poets', (yet further delusion). This first solo show all stemmed from an open mic section of a spoken word night at the Brighton Dome, where she shared her scribbles from the interval, thanks to some very encouraging ladies sitting either side of her!

Expect to hear themes around queer joy, love, societal pressures on women, nature, consent and relationships, disordered eating, the importance of female friendships, family dynamics, and general humanness.

There will also be an opportunity to share the mic, for anyone who wants to. It’s a celebratory space to laugh, cry, relax and chill. Everyone is welcome, come as you are, show up in sequins - or don’t!

Access: She will provide fidget toys and will aim to offer readable versions for those who wish to follow along with the poetry.
