Brighton Fringe are excited to announce a new collaboration with Brighton Palace Pier for the 2019 Brighton Fringe Family Guide. Brighton Palace Pier will be sponsoring the Family Guide, which will be launched at a special event at Horatio’s Bar, Saturday 2 March, from 10–12am, and have donated exciting new prizes for the winners and runners-up of the cover design competition, which will be presented by the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, Councillor Dee Simson.
To ensure that every child has the opportunity to win the prizes on offer, the Family Guide cover competition deadline has been extended to 25 January 2019.
For the competition, England’s largest arts festival is challenging children 11 years and under to create a piece of original cover art inspired by the tagline for Brighton Fringe 2019: ‘Dare to Discover’.
The winner will see their work on the front of 70,000 Brighton Fringe Family Guides and receive a gift voucher worth £200 to spend on tickets at Brighton Fringe 2019. They will also receive a Gold Friends membership entitling them to 2 for 1 offers on events and many more benefits. Three runners-up will win two tickets to a Brighton Fringe children’s show of their choice. On top of this, Brighton Palace Pier will be donating the following prizes:
The Winner:
• 8x Unlimited Rides Wristbands
• 8x Ice Cream/Doughnut Vouchers
Runners-Up (x3):
• 4x Unlimited Rides Wristbands
• 4x Ice Cream/Doughnut Vouchers
Every child who enters will win 1x free ride voucher, to be collected at the launch.
The launch is free but ticketed and tickets can be obtained at Eventbrite here.
Julian Caddy, CEO of Brighton Fringe, said:
“Dare to Discover can be a call-to-action, a challenge, an invitation. It’s a chance to push your own boundaries and to get away from your everyday. You never know where you may end up!”
Anne Ackord, CEO of Brighton Palace Pier said:
“It’s the children’s fantastic sense of wonder that makes both The Fringe & Brighton Palace Pier so special. This competition is the perfect start to the festival and we can’t wait to showcase the Children’s creativity!”
All entries submitted to the Family Guide cover competition will be displayed on the pier walkway in the month leading up to and during Brighton Fringe 2019.
This year’s judging panel includes Mark Oliver, the illustrator for the Brighton Fringe 2019 brochure, Anne Ackord, CEO of Brighton Palace Pier, and The Pebble Trust.
Entrants to the competition should use an A4 piece of paper, in landscape orientation, to design what they think ‘daring to discover’ looks like. The final cover image will be shrunk down to A5 – so they should make sure not to write or draw too small.
The closing date for entries is Friday 25 January 2019. Include your name, age, school, and your parent or guardian’s email on the back of the picture and send your landscape A4 artwork to:
