Musica Moderna: Monteverdi. Moving Fast and Breaking Things - Brighton Fringe
Musica Moderna: Monteverdi. Moving Fast and Breaking Things
Founded in 1971, Brighton Consort is a local a cappella choir of around 20 singers. We specialise in 'Early Music' (1400s–1600s), with a large focus on the Renaissance period. With charitable status, we aim to make the music of the past accessible to all, performing several concert programmes each year and hosting public workshops. The choir is led by Greg Skidmore, a renowned expert in Renaissance music.

This is our first time at Brighton Fringe! We'll be bringing to you the works of Italian composer Claudio Monteverdi. At the turn of the seventeenth century, Monteverdi challenged the strict conventions of Renaissance choral music, and embracing dramatic, text-driven expression. In this programme, Brighton Consort traces the creative tension between tradition and innovation, exploring how Monteverdi’s revolutionary approach reshaped music and paved the way for the Baroque era.
