From Nightingales to Butterflies: English Cello and Piano Music - Brighton Fringe
From Nightingales to Butterflies: English Cello and Piano Music
Cellist, Esther Ward-Caddle and pianist, Evgenia Startseva present a recital of English chamber music inspired by nature, and the transformative healing power of family and legacy. Central to the programme are the cello sonatas of Frederick Delius and Frank Bridge (written, respectively, between 1916-1917 for the celebrated cellist, Beatrice Harrison, who was famed for her live recordings of nightingale and cello duets in the English countryside). The programme also features Stephanie Cant’s 'Suite in Ancient Style', composed in 1995 (for Esther) and based on a piece by her daughter, Kate Cooper (who loved butterflies!), and the premiere of Peter Copley’s ‘Nocturnal’, composed in 2021 for his daughter, Maria’s Copley 18th birthday. Esther and Evgenia are honoured to present this event in support of Off the Fence, and in dedication of Kate’s passionate wish to support the homeless.

There will be a retiring collection for donations at the end of the concert.
