Brighton School of Samba – Carnival Comes to the Streets
A high-energy explosion of Brazilian rhythm and dance, bringing the spirit of Rio Carnival to Brighton.
Brighton School of Samba (BSS) is the city’s original Rio-style samba school, delivering vibrant, high-energy performances inspired by the world-famous Brazilian carnival.
Formed in 2007, BSS is a not-for-profit, community-led group built on the traditions of Rio’s “escolas de samba”, combining powerful percussion (bateria), dance, and carnival performance. The group regularly performs at major events across Brighton and beyond, including Brighton Pride, Burning of the Clocks, and Brighton Fringe.
This performance features a full samba bateria of drums alongside dancers, creating an immersive street-carnival atmosphere. Expect driving rhythms, colourful costumes, and an infectious energy that gets audiences moving.
BSS is open to all and reflects Brighton’s inclusivity.
