Pianist Jonathan Powell performs the 24 Preludes & Fugues of Dmitri Shostakovich. Composed in the early 1950s in Moscow, the set comprises of a prelude and fugue in all the major and minor keys of the chromatic scale. Taking his inspiration from The Well-Tempered Clavier perhaps, Shostakovich creates radiant new piano sonorities, textures and intricate fugal designs.
