Described as "exciting", "innovative", "imaginative" and "intriguing" by critics, two interactive kinaesthetic sound installations feature in this diverse selection of artwork sited in Brighton's Ki Aikido dojo, reflecting a series of field recordings, landscape photography & videography depicting Kyoto, Osaka & the sacred gardens and forests of Japan's ancient capital Nara.

Ben Mobbs' performing installations are often observed as social experiences with small groups responding both individually and communally to art apparatuses. "In the Absence of Silence" and "Evocation" are all of musical instrument, portrayals of carefully curated sonic landscapes, and deep listening tools to dive into the sensorium and to truly feel and engage with acoustics.
Both are composed in the musical sense and also consider participants a vital actor in their function as living art, responding to touch and motion.

Ben is an autistic artist & musician interested in sound in relation to space, its relationship with human psychology, especially sensory perception and a sense of play, and the crossover between art and music.
He aims to draw individuals' attention to being present and alert when together with living artworks, that respond to the audience and the space they are situated in, instead of being merely transported (or "hung") there, creating a unique once-only dialogue.
