Brighton Spiegeltent: Bosco
Brighton
The Bosco Theater is a wooden Dutch circus tent built around 1910 that comes to us from Amsterdam. It's a wonderful, intimate and atmospheric performance space including great sightlines for everyone in three quarters round and a fantastic intimate amphitheatre vibe. It's not a black box - with no aerial rigging points and no side wing space. The main structure is red with the stage area in black drapes and good sound and light equipment. The stage area is large for the 180 capacity. • The seating is narrow padded benches with no backs • If it’s windy the wall panels can rattle and the roof canvas flaps • If the terrace outside is busy with punters there will be ambient noise including background music from the SpiegelPub. • There’s no crossover and minimal wing space. Given all the above the Bosco is a unique and fantastic space for the right sort of show - upbeat, physical, entertaining and interactive. We have a great vibe and many companies and performers that love it. The chemistry of the venue is more a circus tent than a theatre. If you are seeking a black box-type theatre for delicate emotive work the Bosco is not the place for you! There are plenty of spaces in town that will do this very well.
