Screenings, Performances & Conversations - showcasing the work of international PACE artists followed by Q&A

The presentations include “Jainaba - and other stories”, a performance and discussion with Rebecca Drammeh who remains the only trained black Global Majority deaf actress in Sweden. Trained at The Stockholm University of the Arts - Rebecca will share an excerpt of her ‘Jainaba Wouldn’t Stop Dreaming’ theatre piece followed by a discussion on themes of identity, language culture and inclusive structures. Voiced by Yamou Sosseh Bostrom, the performance reflects on Rebecca’s journey as a deaf person and her eventual visit to Africa.

Other guest artists include the multi-talented MRISI in collaboration with Ugandan-Finnish singer-songwriter MAD ICE. Theatre director Nada Sabet will also be reflecting on her international work using theatre as a tool in community creation and exploring the power of humour in tackling violence. Sabet has been directing and using theatre tools since 2005 both for mainstream productions and in non-theatre settings like conferences, corporate training and problem solving situations as well as for therapy and mental health elevation. Her creative work varies across genres from classical theatre scripts to improvisation and new writing, working with dance, mixed media, puppetry, the community and on site specific, interactive and immersive theatre.

THIS EVENT IS PART OF THE CULTURE CONNEX FESTIVAL SEASON IN COLLABORATION WITH URBANFLO, PACE, BRIGHTON FRINGE, BRIGHTON PRIDE, IRONWORKS STUDIOS & BN1 ARTS
