WINDOW Profile: Fast

Our 10 selected WINDOW companies for Brighton Fringe 2018 have now been announced! Over the coming weeks, we’ll be interviewing each of the companies. This week we introduce Kate Barton and Kate Valentine, and their show 'Fast' produced by Digital Drama.

What is your event about?

Fast by Kate Barton is a dark, psychological drama based on true events. Set in 1910 in the isolated Pacific Northwest, it examines the notorious ‘Doctor’ Linda Hazzard, a complex, beguiling and utterly driven woman whose methods divided a nation. Fast reflects a modern fascination with ‘clean eating’, specialised diets and alternative medicine through the lens of one of the original mavericks of the medical world.

Why did you decide to make it?

We were approached by writer Kate Barton for advice about the play and we offered to produce it as we thought it was such a great script.

Who should see your show?

People over the age of 13 who enjoy suspense filled drama with strong characters and plot.

What should audience members expect?

An entertaining experience that makes you think.

What are the technical requirements of the event?

We shall be using handheld projectors and a sound design by an award winning sound editor.

What are your plans post-Brighton Fringe, with this or other work?

Our production of ‘Fast’ will be going to the Edinburgh Fringe in August 2018 and we are looking to tour the production to other venues with thrust or in the round seat configurations.

What does it mean to you to be selected for WINDOW?

It is validation that we have a quality play that will appeal to a wide audience and we are delighted to have been selected.

What do you hope to gain from inclusion in WINDOW?

It is a fantastic opportunity to launch this great play to a selection of industry specialists while we are at Brighton Fringe and hopefully have some good conversations with potential co-producers and tour bookers.
