Freedom Season Profile: Massaoke's Club La La

Freedom Season
07 May 2018

For the first year at Brighton Fringe we're very excited to present the Freedom Season! The Freedom Season is a programme of events that are accessible to a range of audiences with access needs, including those with visible and invisible disabilities. The season also showcases and supports the work of Deaf and disabled participants.
Today we present an interview with one of the Freedom Season events taking place at this years Fringe, Massaoke's Club La La by Massaoke Ltd.

What is your event about?

Communal Rock & Pop singalong with a live band and stunning visuals.

Why did you decide to make it?

Having performed at the two biggest Fringe's in the world for over the past 3 years (Edinburgh & Adelaide) we decided to bring the sing to Brighton in good old Blighty, our home.

What should audience members expect?

A unique audience experience – a live band playing massive hits with lyrics & amazing visuals/videos on a giant screen, rousing the whole crowd to sing and dance along together.

We put on a spectacular, high-energy stage show, glammed-up in sequins and spandex, with a set list that ranges from the 70s to the present, from classic rock and pop to indie, disco and dance anthems and other retro favourites. What's not to love?!

What are your plans post-Brighton Fringe, with this or other work?

More Fringes including Edinburgh and Rochester Fringe in the U.S. As well as some pop-up events across the UK in London and at universities country wide.

What advice do you have to other creators about making their event more accessible?

Do your research on your venue and, if able to get there, take a look around your performance space to put yourself in the head space of your punters to see how your show is gonna make the most impact. Even get your followers involved in the action right from the start, you'll build a great loyal community that way and they'll feel invested in you and your performance.

What would you like to see at the Freedom Season next year?

Maybe some more outdoor events that have no restrictions but, as we know, we live in the U.K. so it's weather permitting!
