Fraser and Hamish really do have it all. Good careers, good clothes and a palpable sense that they're the A Gays. But all is not as it seems in this middle class, queer fantasia of effortless high functionality. When a unplanned-for dog enters their perfectly styled world it isn't long before the artisan sourdough really does start to sour. Will the furry Phoebe end or maybe even save their (not so) perfect life after all?
Sweet Phoebe is a revival and a re-gendering of the classic Australian play by stalwart playwright Michael Gow. Having it's Sydney Theatre Company premiere in 1994 (featuring acting royalty and now Sussex resident Cate Blanchett in a production which also toured to Croydon Warehouse), Sweet Phoebe is in equal parts earnest, satirical, funny and devastating. Yet always utterly pawsome.
