“Best current British blues singer I know.” – The words of BBC 6 Music’s Tom Robinson, who has long given a nod of approval to the work of this singer- songwriter.
Melissa James is however much more than a blues singer. She is a poetic songsmith with a voice that reaches soul deep, moving hearts.
Her second album, Stripped Back was recorded in 2015 - the release being delayed by her own personal challenges which also inspired the creation of her Big Sing and mental health initiative SING4SANE. Stripped Back is an intimate, acoustic collection of songs recorded as a duo; her voice delicately, yet powerfully, placed against the backdrop of piano or guitar.
Inspired by the music of Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, Eric Bibb, and Lizz Wright, Melissa’s sound is a rich blend of rootsy folk-blues and soulful gospel-jazz.
Melissa seeks members of the public to sing with her at this concert.
