Award-winning artist Jade Hylton reflects on her travels across China, Chengdu where she lived, worked and held her first solo exhibition; Black Brighton.
The collection includes portraits and landscapes, shot on her great grandmother’s trusty Konica. highlighting her journey, the incredible people she met and the precious moments she experienced.
Through her lens, she meticulously observes the world around her -every colour, fashion, and architectural detail. Her work often reflects the authenticity of her subjects; Jade has a knack for capturing candid expressions and unguarded interactions, intent on preserving the essence of real moments shared among real people. Her love for film adds an extra layer to her storytelling; the grainy texture and natural imperfections give her images a timeless quality, invoking nostalgia in those who view her work.
Jade sees every opportunity not just as a chance to capture an image, but as an invitation to document a piece of humanity.
