An international collaboration welcoming visiting artist Odirile Khune Motsiri from University of Free State in South Africa for a residency at Blast Theory and an exhibition at Plus X Innovation Hub.
Focused on identity and interested in fashion, Motsiri repurposes denim to create unique expressive relief-styled self-portraits inspired by early childhood memories of his grandmother collecting fabric scraps from an upholstery factory to make bags and hats at home. His “Body in Foliage” series reflects on the relief that comes from knowing and accepting the self. His floral motifs represent how his own experience of being in nature helps foster this self-knowledge.
BLAST THEORY make interactive art to explore social and political questions. Four times BAFTA-nominated, Blast Theory’s work has been shown from the Venice Biennale to the Sundance Film Festival. Blast Theory’s residency programme has supported over 80 artists, makers, thinkers and writers from all around the world.
THIS ACTIVITY IS PART OF THE CULTURE CONNEX FESTIVAL SEASON IN COLLABORATION WITH URBANFLO, PACE, BRIGHTON FRINGE, BRIGHTON PRIDE & UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX (
